Wednesday 1st November, 2017 was earmarked by an official visit to the Van2017 office from the Head of State of the republic of Vanuatu, His Excellency Obed Moses Tallis and the First Lady Estella Tallis.
The President led a delegation from State House to the Mini Games office, to meet the Van2017 Team. It was an opportunity for him to deliver his message about the upcoming Games.
“I want our family in neighboring countries to come and watch these Games with excitement, but this depends on you, Van2017 and all sportsmen, on your performance,” he said.
“I am calling on to all our Ni Vanuatu athletes and officials participating in this Van2017 to take pride of this opportunity to display what Vanuatu can give to the Pacific region and the world. We need to show that we can host an event as such.
“I am calling also for true sportsmanship, whether we win a medal or not – what matters is to participate in the true spirit of sportsmanship.
“Officials and athletes, you are our Vanuatu Ambassadors during this time of celebrations. Your professional commitment and engagement with visitors in the region will certainly give the image of our friendly people, our clean and beautiful environment of Vanuatu. It is our opportunity to showcase the beauty of this nation as well as of its people.”
President Tallis said he hoped that the newly sporting facility recently handed over by the government of China to the government of Vanuatu, will be a landmark for developing the nation’s sport sector to another height in the coming years.
“We cannot miss this opportune time to promote Vanuatu to the world,” he said.
In his message he also thanked the Government of Vanuatu for its support and Van2017 CEO for his tireless efforts to prepare this year’s Games.
He commended also Van2017 officers for their commitment to making sure all the planning and preparations for the Games are done in time for the big event that all of Vanuatu is looking forward to.
The Head of State made a short site visit to the new Korman Complex to have a first look at the indoor and outdoor fields of play, before the Games starts on December 2, 2017.
