Five principals from primary and secondary schools in Port Vila have been appointed to act as School Coordinators during the Pacific Mini Games.

Van2017 selected five schools, which are Anamburu, Lycee Louis Antoine de Bougainville, INTV, Freshwota School and Central School, as designated Mini Games Villages.

On November 10, 2017, the School Coordinators signed up with Van2017 for their engagement to assist Games Village Managers in their respective schools, providing a custodian oriented role.

The School Coordinators are Mrs Winnie Timatua from Anamburu school, Joseph Molkis from INTV and Bergmans Iati who will be assisting Games Village Manager David Junior Patunvanu; Zebedee Taga from Central School will assist Games Village Manager Noel Pakoa, Manses Kalo from Freshwota School will assist Games Village Manager Barry Ishmael, while Van2017 Games Supervisor Tane Maki will be in charge of the Convention Centre, which is designated as the Athletes Centre.

School Coordinators will support Village Managers to help facilitate smooth village operations, help monitor Den Mothers, provide surveillance of functional area within the campus, attend and facilitate problem resolution with occupants and facilities and/or communities that surround the Games villages and, above all, be Ambassadors of Vanuatu within the Villages.

During the Games, School Coordinators will be an essential part of the whole village operations, with the help of their auxiliary staff, starting from November 18 to December 17, 2017.

The Government, through the Ministry of Education, has announced that all primary and secondary schools around the country will close their doors on November 17, to allow the Van2017 Organizing Committee to prepare schools as Games Villages.

It will also give the opportunity for children and students, particularly in Port Vila, to be able to watch the historic sporting event being held in Vanuatu from December 4-16.
